Overview

Financial balance after divorce

Spousal support — also known as alimony — is financial support paid by one spouse to the other following a separation or divorce. Its purpose is to address the economic imbalance that can result when one spouse has significantly lower income or earning capacity than the other.

California courts consider many factors when determining spousal support, including the length of the marriage, each spouse’s earning capacity, the standard of living during the marriage, and each spouse’s contributions to the household. Scott helps clients on both sides of the equation — whether pursuing support or defending against an unreasonable claim.
