Overview

A path forward through financial hardship

When debt becomes unmanageable, bankruptcy can provide a legal framework for relief and a fresh financial start. It is not a sign of failure — it is a legal tool designed to help individuals and families regain their footing when circumstances have become overwhelming.

Scott helps clients understand whether bankruptcy is the right option and, if so, which type best fits their situation. He handles both Chapter 7 (liquidation bankruptcy, which discharges most unsecured debts) and Chapter 13 (reorganization bankruptcy, which allows you to repay debts over time while keeping your assets).

What to expect

1
Financial Review — Scott reviews your income, assets, debts, and expenses to determine which bankruptcy chapter is appropriate, or if alternatives exist.
2
Credit Counseling — Federal law requires completion of a credit counseling course before filing. Scott guides you through this requirement.
3
Filing the Petition — Scott prepares and files your bankruptcy petition with the federal court. An automatic stay immediately stops most collection actions.
4
Meeting of Creditors — A brief meeting with the bankruptcy trustee is required. Scott prepares you for this and accompanies you.
5
Discharge or Repayment Plan — Chapter 7 results in a discharge of eligible debts. Chapter 13 establishes a 3-5 year repayment plan approved by the court.
